Tardigrades from some mosses of Shennong Frame State Forest Park in China

AbstractShennong Frame State Forest Park closes to the Muyu Town (31.4 degrees N, 110.7 degrees E) in the west of Hubei Province and includes Jinhou Ridge, Tiansheng Bridge, Shennong Altar, Xiangxi River Source and other sceneries. Our knowledge of Tardigrada from this area was rather meager. In June of 2005, the writer has collected some paper bags of mosses from above sceneries. Using precipitation method, the writer have gotten more tardigrade specimens from these mosses. The following known species were found: Echiniscus japonicus Morikawa, 1951; Echiniscus bigranulatus Richters, 1907 is a new record for China and has 108.9-298.4 mu m body length, filamentous lateral cirrus A of 48.4-72.6 mu m, two granular sculptures on the dorsal plates, dentate collars on the fourth pair of legs, sickle claws with dagger spurs; Pseudediniscus facettalis Petersen, 1951; Milnesium tardigradum Doyere, 1840; Macrobiotus adelges Dastych, 1977; Macrobiotus hibiscus Barros, 1942 is a new record for China too and has 387.2-544.0 mu m body length, 108.9-181.5 mu m maximum width, "pearled" sculpture on the body surface, with eyes, 2 macroplacoids and microplacoid, Y-shaped doubleclaw with cuticular bars and lunulae, eggs with truncated cone-like projections; Macrobiotus hufelandi Schultze, 1833; Macrobiotus richtersi Murray, 1911; Macrobiotus terricola Mihelcic, 1949; Dactylobiotus aquatilis Yang, 1999; Isohypsibius jinhouensis sp. nov. was found in Jinhou Ridge scenery and differs from other described members of die genus in having 338.8-423.5 mu m body length, 133.1-145.2 mu m maximum width, fine armores on the dorsal cuticle, large oval eyes, rectangular and oval macroplacoids, circular microplacoids, two V-shaped doubleclaws of different size and shape, primary branches without accessory points, concentric circle bars in wide claw bases, so it is new for science. AN the specimens are deposited in the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan.Etymology. Isohypsibius jinhouensis sp. nov. is named in a souvenir for discovery place of Shennong Frame, China.
