The abundance and distribution of small - sized fish species in Biandantang Lake were studied with pop - nets in the fall of 1995. Thirteen species were sampled. The total abundance of 7 major species was about 140 times 10-5, and Hemiculter leucisulus, Hypseleostris swinhonis. Ctenogobius giurinus and Pseudorasbora parva were four numerically dominant species.Based on the composition of dominant species and the biomass of plant, the whole lake could be divided into 6 habitats. The density of small - sized fish species and the diversity index of the fish species varied in different type of habitat. In three habitats, ie the Vallisnerias spiralis habitat, the Vallisneriaspiralis and Myriophyllum spicatum habitat, and the higher density Mtriophyllumspicatum habitat, the total density of fish and the fish species diversity index were higher, while in the habitat where plants were absent the two parameters were the lowest. The distribution of Hemiculter leucisulus, Hypseleostris swinhonis and Pseudorasbora parva were correlated significantly with the habitat type, while the distribution and diversity of the small - sized fish species were not significantly correlated with the water depth.
