In the upper section (46.6-2.2m, Pleistocene to Holocene) of Borehole 47 located in Jianghan Plain, Jiangling County, Hubei Province [China], the sediments are loose sand and clay, containing abundant fossil diatoms. Among them, three species and one variety are recognized as new taxa; 3 other species are probably also new in characters, but they are not named here because only a small number of individuals have been observed. The taxa discussed include: Eunothia clevi Grun. var. obliquestriata (Qi, Lin et He) nom. nov., [E. c. var. sinica], Achnanthes sp., Eunotia sp., Navicula sp., Gomphonema tropicale Brun var. nonpunctatum var. nov., Cymbella cistula (Hempr.) Grun. var. recta var. nov., Cymbella jianghanensis sp. nov., and Cymbella tenuistriata sp. nov.
