A TWO MONTHS TEST OF AN ARTIFICIAL CLOSED AQUATIC ECOSYSTEM CONTAINING Ceratophyllum demersum L. AND Bulinus australianus

AbstractClosed aquatic ecosystems (CABS) are one of the most important subsystems in the construction of biological life support systems (BLSS). Most of the CABS conducted on algae and zooplankton, the growth mechanism of higher aquatic producer is rarely seriously stated. Here an artificial CAES consisting of the higher aquatic plant Ceratophyllum demersum L., the mollusca Bulinus australianus and associated bacteria was tested for more than 60 days. Variations of C. demersum L. biomass production were obtained none-invasively using graph analysis tools. Both the macrophyte and the snail communities showed a net growth phase followed by a plateau phase, reflecting stable coexistence over time. To investigate environmental variables potential effect on producer and consumer compartment production, on line monitor such as pH, dissolved oxygen (DO) and transmission light intensity (TLI) sensors were instrumented to record a team of data per 1s contactlessly. Pearson correlation test shows C. demersum L. were negatively correlated with DO and TLI, while positively correlated with the predator number. Based on above findings, predicted biomass production of producer was presented. Biological compartments match well during the two months operation.
